1. Can I debate in Spanish?

 

No. the Tarbut U.N model is sctrictly carried out in the English language.

 

2. How can I win as best delegate?

 

Tarbutmun has 3 differentes recognitions: 1 best delegate and 2 honorable mentions per committee. 

Best delegate: This award goes to the delegate with the best performance during the debate. 

Honorable mention:  This award goes to two delegates that did an outstanding performance during the debate. 

To win there are certain aspects the chairs take into account:

 a. Following the procotol

 b. Appropiate dress code

 c. Respect for the delegates and your chairs.

 d. Getting on time to every session

 e. To adhere to your official position.

 f. Good debate and argumentation. 

 

 

3. What is the dress code?

 

Dress code is an important part of any MUN.  It demonstrates respect towards the model, the country you are representing, the delegates, and mostly, the UNITED NATIONS.  

For girls: 

Skirt or dress (max. 3 cm above the knee)

Formal pants (NO LEGGINS, NO DENIM in any color)

no Tennis-shoes, only formal shoes.

For boys:

Suit

Tie

Formal shoes 

What is NOT ALLOWED:

 

Non-formal blouses

Low cut tops

Sleeveless blouses with décolleté.

Denim pants of any color

Leggings.

Tennis-shoes.

Boots with chains, stones or excesive decorations.

 

*NOTE: the delegates may bring costumes according to their representating country as long as the costume is a formal one. (E.g if you represent México don´t bring a Mariachi costume)

 

4. Are there any words not recognized by the U.N?

Yes! during the debate there are some words you cannot say, and here we have a list of them:

*OK

* WAR: State of Warfare/ Conflict.

* 3rd World Country: developing countries.

*Terrorist:  radical groups.

* Black people: African-American.

 

5. What are the basic rules for any U.N model?

Every model has its own rules, but we can mention our own:

* Speak in third person.  (the delegation of.... believes....

* No eye contact

* Be respectful to your chairs and the rest of the delegates.

* Cellphones are not permitted during the debate.

* Drinking water, is permitted but eating is not.

* To leave the room you must ask permission from your chairs. 

* Ipads or computers are strictly forbidden.

* All delegates must address the forum when permission to do so is granted.

* No delegate should make irrelevant declarations to the topic or offensive to the chairs or delegates.

* All sessions are public. (Unless an unmoderated caucus is being held)

 

6. What happens if I have a problem with one of the delegates or my chairs?

If you have a problem with one of the delegates in your committee you must address the chairs first. If the problem is not solved you can come to Tobías Gutfrajnd, the Secretary-General, Emilia Entebi, the Under-Secretary General, or Gabriela Cohen, TarbutMUN Coordinator. 

If the problem is with one of your chairs, address your issue with Gabriela Cohen.

 

 

7. What exactly is a "Warning"?

A warning is a "notice" given by the chairs when you do something that goes against the general rules. Remember that a warning is subjected to the chairs´ decision and cannot be eliminated once it is given.

The rules apply in the following cases:

 

a. Speak among delegates (if your chair has warned you several times and didn´t follow instructions)

b. Making fun of a delegate, the chairs, or the ushers.

c. Not having an appropriate dress code. 

d. Being late.

e. Not following the official position of your country.

f. Giving false information

g. If speaking in 1st person and being warned several times

h. Using an indecent vocabulary (orally or through ushers)

i. Using your cellphone during sessions.

j. Eating or chewing gum.

 

If you get:

1 WARNING: You lose the chance to win best delegate

2 WARNINGS: The chair is entitled to take you out of the session. (You will be able to come back for the next session)

3 WARNINGS:  The delegate is expelled from the Model and has a Zero in both days.
